Exploring cultures in north-west Namibia - an unforgettable trip trough different landscapes and wildlife. Starting at the most favorite mountain photography scene Spitzkoppe we proceed into the land of the Damara people searching for the black rhino embraced from fascinating rock & mountain structures. Leaving the tor rock formations we have a short stopover at the Skeleton Coast to enter Kaokoland and the farm grounds of the Himba people. Here you will get a chance to jump into the most beautiful pool in the world. In addition, you will get a chance to drive through dried out river beds - some real safari adventure driving. To fulfill all desires of getting close to the local wildlife we also take some time to discover Etosha, the biggest national park of Namibia. To finish, you will get a glimpse of wildlife conservancy at Harnas Wildlife Foundation.

This trip can be booked with camping or lodging accommodation.

Start and endpoint of the trip will be Windhoek Namibia.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival in Windhook

Every one arrives in Windhoek. We can help you with the airport transfers (own account). We pack the cars and get ready for our trip the next day.

Tonight we will have dinner at a local restaurant (dinner for your own account)

Day 2

Spitzkoppe

AM – Driving to the spectacular Spitzkoppe after breakfast
PM – Put up camp exploring the mountains
Dinner around the campfire.

Maybe we could hear a leopard in the mountain tonight.

Day 3

Ugab River – Rhino Camp

Getting up early to enjoy the sunrise over the mountains and enjoy the sounds of the morning.
AM – Start driving towards Damaraland and our camp in the Ugab River. On the way we enjoy the beautiful landscape. Picnic lunch on the way.
PM – After lunch we take on the last stretch to our camp to set up our camp for the night.
Dinner around the campfire.

We hope to have again a visitor tonight. In the past a brown hyena came to visit us here during the night - what a great experience.

Day 4

Damaraland

After breakfast we pack our camp and drive into the untouched nature of Damaraland. We will be on the lookout for some of the desert animals that roam this area including lions, rhinos, zebras, antelope and elephants.
Picnic lunch somewhere in Damaraland.
PM – We will arrive late afternoon at our camp just above the Huab river. We will sleep in the open tonight - not at an official campsite.
Dinner around the campfire while we look at the amazing stars in the sky and listen to the night sounds.

Day 5

Khowarib Lodge

AM – After we pack our camp we drive a bit in the Huab River on the lookout for the desert elephants before we go to Twyfelfontein to visit the world heritage site. Lunch at Lodge.
PM – Driving north to Kaokoland (land of the Himba) to our campsite at Khowarib Lodge.
We enjoy the nice showers here as for the next 3 nights we will be in the bush ☺
Dinner around our campfire and we talk about our experiences so far.

Day 6-8

Kaokoland bush area

The next 3 days we will be driving around in the bush between the dry riverbeds on the lookout for the desert adapted animals. We will visit some of the problem areas where there is Human/Wildlife conflict and also maybe will do some work on some of the bomas in the area. (Built for the cattle at night to protect them from the lions at night) We will talk about this around the campfires at night.

Day 9

Opuwo - arrival

Today we make our way to Opuwo, the capital of the Himba people.
We will arrive in the afternoon at our campsite at the lodge to enjoy a well deserved cold beer and look at a beautiful sunset from the lodge.
We enjoy the hot showers and prepare our dinner on our campfire.

Day 10

Opuwo

AM – We will go and visit a Himba community in the area and learn a bit more about their culture.
PM – We relax at the lodge after a few hard days of driving while we stock up our supplies for the rest of the trip. Dinner at the lodge (for your own account).

Day 11-13

Etosha National Park

Early in the morning we leave for Etosha National Park. We will spend the next 3 days driving through Etosha visiting waterholes on the lookout for the African wildlife.
We will camp at different campsites in the park and cook our own food at our campfire. One of the nights we will eat at one of the parks restaurants (for your own account).

Day 14

Kamrav Guest Farm (Grootfontein)

Today we leave the park and start making our way to Harnas. We will drive through the town where I grew up and stock up our supplies for the rest of the trip.
We then drive towards Grootfontein where we will visit the Hoba Meteorite. From there we will go to our campsite for the night at Kamrav Guest Farm. Tonight we are going to BBQ Namibian style!

Day 15

Harnas Wildlife Foundation - arrival

After an early breakfast and packing up our camp we will leave for Harnas Wildlife Foundation.
We aim to be on Harnas just after lunch. Set up our camp for the next 3 nights and then... Harnas time!
Tonight we will hear the lions roar!

Day 16-17

Harnas Wildlife Foundation

Spent the days on the farm, learn more about this sanctuary and the animals.

Day 18

Windhoek

After a good lapa breakfast and some last goodbyes to animals and people we start out drive back to Windhoek.

Tonight we have our last dinner together as a group for this trip at one of the local restaurants. (Dinner for your own account)

Day 19

Flight Back Home

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport according to your flight time.
