Harnas Wildlife Foundation

he Harnas Wildlife Foundation is a charitable organisation and one of the few orphanages and wildife sanctuaries for wild animals in Southern Africa. More than 300 animals including lions, leopards, cheetahs, endangered Africa wild dogs, meerkats, baboons and tortoises live on the 10 000 hectare farm which is being transformed into a protected wildlife reserve. Harnas is located approx. 300 km to the east of Windhoek near Gobabis. Harnas is dedicated to saving Namibia's endangered wild animals.

Lion Roar Sundowner: 18:00-19:00

Hear the thrilling sound of the lions roaring and competing for the loudest and strongest position on Harnas while enjoying a delicious sundowner!

It is the lion's roar, answered first from one direction and then another, increasing in degree until you can feel the vibrations in your chest. Each roar is beating to the rhythm of your heart. When the lions' calls have reached their peak, they begin to wane, until the sounds are mere growls expelled with each deep animal breath. In and out, in and out, the growls lessen, and then there is stillness. Territory has been established for the moment--as it will be again at sunset and at tomorrow's sunrise and each day after. (Barbara Bennet) Book Excerpt: “Soul of a Lion”.

Day 3

Harnas Wildlife Foundation

The Harnas team would like to invite you to join us for a morning coffee with the lions. During this tour you will get to experience the Wildlife Welfare World of Harnas, where certain enclosures have been constructed to hold new arrivals sick or injured animals and animals that cannot be rehabilitated and released. You will witness the care given to these animals so to ensure they are having a good second chance in life. You will go with us on a guided tour, through the kingdom of lions, cheetahs, baboons, wild dogs, leopards and caracals; get to hear all the information and stories of our animals.

You will be driven in one of our open safari vehicles and be able to relax and experience our amazing Namibian wildlife up close and personal. And because this area of Namibia is so forbidding, it is also one of the most pristine coastlines in the world.

Day 10

Etosha South

The wildlife eden of Etosha National Park is one of the great safari destinations in Africa.

The biodiversity of Etosha is truly impressive. Here you can see 4 out of the famous African Big 5 animals: elephants, rhinos, lions, and leopards. The only one that is missing here is the buffalo. Besides these impressive animals, you can see more than a hundred other mammal species such as giraffes, zebras, different antelopes, wildebeests, hyenas, cheetahs, warthogs, jackals, foxes, and many others.

Some animals e.g. leopards are difficult to see during the day as they’re more active after the sunset. To see them you can join a night safari drive from your campsite. Local guides know where and when to look for animals.

Day 11

Etosha South

For many tourists visiting Etosha becomes the highlight of their Namibia road trip. To get the best experience it’s important to come here in the right season. The dry season, May to October, is the best time to see wildlife. During the dry season, there is not much water in the park animals come to waterholes to drink. You can sit next to one of them in your car and see many animals without even driving around too much.

You should spend your evenings and mornings out on safari - it's when wildlife viewing is at it's best and you'll be able to spot that elusive big five! During the day, when the midday sun is at it's most ferocious, sit back and relax in the shade or by the pool.

Day 12
