Who doesn't dream of spending holidays on Cruise Ship like Queen Mary 2? Whilst cruising on the ocean, you might dream of some adventures exploring the Namib desert treasures?

Experience the flora and fauna of Namib desert and Sekelton coast

Dusty Trails Safaris will organise your day tours and make you discover the fascinating beauty of the Namib desert. May it be the living fossil, the Welwitchia mirabilis, the unreal moonland scape with all its flora and fauna.

The further north you get, the more likely you will be able to spot some of the ship wrecks spread around. The so called “Skeleton Coast” is the name given to the northern part of Namibia's coastline and its hinterland, which stretches from Swakopmund to the Kunene, the border river with Angola to the north. The Skeleton Coast is part of the Namib.

The southern part of the Skeleton Coast up to Torra Bay is a national park open to the general public (Dorob National Park) and is particularly popular with anglers due to its abundance of fish. This popularity has led to the establishment of several fishing camps. One of these camps has now developed into a real town: Henties Bay.

Looking for activities with more action?

Should you rather like to spend your time with some exercise, we get you to climb  the highest dune in the Namib Desert, Dune 7. Dune 7 is one of the world's largest dunes with a height of approx. 383 metres. It is located approx. 6 kilometres from Walvis Bay. It is very popular with the locals as a slope for sandboarding and quad biking. The picnic area, which is now surrounded by sand, has several shady palm trees hidden in the lee of the dune.

There is plenty things to do around Swakopmund & Walvis Bay

If your interest is with architecture and township, we will bring you to wander around in the coastal towns of Walvis Bay or Swakopmund.

Swakopmund on the western coast is an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa and currently capital of Erongo region. It is situated at our coastal belt with some of the world’s best fishing in the world. The rugged coastline on the Atlantic Ocean is directly attached to the oldest Living Desert. It is divided into three parts: alluvial plains, sand dunes and canyons. You can find the oldest pieces of rock. In these surroundings we host the world’s most spectacular gala dinners known as the “desert dinner”. The acoustics in these canyons are phenomenal, with light shows that will blow your mind, complete with opera singers that echoes for miles and fire spinners that will have you mesmerized.

Walvis Bay is a municipality on Walvis Bay in the Erongo region of Namibia and the most important seaport in Namibia.

There are a number of excursions that can be undertaken around Walvis Bay:

The lagoon which is located on the southern edge of the town is over 5000 years old, making it the oldest in Namibia and an internationally recognised bird sanctuary with the most important mudflat area in Southern Africa. Over 80 % of all flamingos in southern Africa feed in this lagoon. You can paddle through the lagoon in a kayak.

The Bird Island guano platform is located nine kilometres north of Walvis Bay in the sea. It is the only place in Namibia where the pink pelican (Pelicanus onocrotalus) breeds. The platform is also a favourite perch for white-breasted cormorants (Phalacrocorax lucidus) and crowned cormorants (Microcarbo coronatus).

You can enjoy seal and dolphin tours by boat along the coast or go deep-sea fishing.

There is also excursions by boat or four-wheel drive vehicle to the bird colonies of Sandwich Harbour, a 10 km long lagoon. On the way there you will pass the stone cross (Padrão) once erected by Portuguese sailors, which bears witness to the landing and occupation of Portugal. It can be found about 20 kilometres south of Walvis Bay in a small bay.
